6/15/2009 Zengeler Cleaners Responds To Needs Of Local Community With Extensive Outreach Program
Time, money and manpower included in contributions from local cleaner
Northbrook, IL, June 9, 2009: No doubt about it: these are challenging economic times. While just about everyone feels the impact of the worst recession in 80 year, not-for-profit organizations are among the hardest-hit – in large part because they are dependent on donations and the generosity of others. Zengeler Cleaners understands this and as a result, has maintained its 152-year tradition of giving back to the community.
“2009 has been very difficult for organizations that depend on the support of others,” according to Tom Zengeler, President of the Midwest’s oldest and largest cleaner. “Zengeler Cleaners has responded to this challenge by doing our best to continue our partnerships with local organizations that provide services to our youth, the elderly and the arts. These groups are often the lifeblood of towns and villages where our customers, employees and family live and work. We even found a couple of creative new opportunities this year.”
One of the new opportunities involved Hawthorne Middle School South in Vernon Hills. The school held a “fashion show” to provide graduation dresses for students who needed assistance . . . and Zengeler Cleaners donated many of the 100 dresses for the show. “Zengeler Cleaners’ support made a big difference in the success of this year’s fashion show,” said Cathy Logsdon, School Social Worker. “We cannot thank them enough for the help they were able to provide.”
Many of the dresses were donated as part of Zengeler’s 2009 Glass Slipper Project collection drive, Zengeler noted. “We were very please to leverage the success of our Glass Slipper effort in support of Hawthorne Middle School South,” he said.
Zengeler Cleaners’ supports a wide variety of organizations representing a broad cross section of the community. Examples include support for the arts, youth programs, athletic programs for girls and boys, social services, support for women’s shelters and community activities sponsored by faith-based organizations. “Our goal is to match our support with the specific needs of the organization,” continued Zengeler. “Sometimes we provide labor and services; other times, it means financial support. Whatever the need, our goal is to create effective partnerships.”
