3/2/2010 Annual Dress Drive Supporting The Glass Slipper Project Now Underway
Seven Zengeler Cleaners locations are northern Illinois collection points
Northbrook, IL, March 2, 2009: How would you like to help a not-for-profit organization that helps thousands of area high school women? You can – and it’s easy to do! It’s called the Glass Slipper Project.
The Glass Slipper Project (GSP) is an all-volunteer organization that helps local area high school women experience their senior proms. GSP collects “lovingly-used” dresses and accessories from those who’ve already had the opportunity to enjoy this occasion and want to help students unable to afford to attend their own proms. The 2010 collection drive is now underway, with donations accepted at all seven Zengeler Cleaners locations in Lake and northern Cook Counties through March 27th. Zengeler stores are located in Deerfield, Winnetka, Northbrook, Northfield and Hubbard Woods, with two stores in Libertyville.
“The Glass Slipper Project has helped more than 15,000 high school women attend prom since it was founded,” said Tom Zengeler, President of the Midwest’s largest cleaner. “Most of these women would not have been able to attend without the generous donations of others. There are at least as many students in a similar situation this year. Our goal is to collect enough dresses to meet the needs of all.”
Each year, Zengeler Cleaners works closely with several schools and other organizations to gather as many dresses and accessories as possible. Schools committed to support the 2010 drive include Lake Forest, Libertyville, Stevenson, Deerfield, New Trier and Carmel High Schools.
Glass Slipper Project was founded nearly a dozen years ago by women who recognized that no matter how special prom night may be, many students simply cannot afford the expense of attending this special evening. GSP collects lovingly-used dresses and accessories and provides them free of charge to local area students. Dresses are distributed at Glass Slipper “boutiques” on pre-designated shopping days, where a volunteer personal shopper helps each student select the dress and accessories of their dreams.
Last year, GSP helped approximately 2,000 women attend prom. With numbers like these, you can be confident your donation really makes a difference. In addition to serving as collection points, Zengeler Cleaners supports the project by inspecting each donated dress, making necessary repairs and cleaning them at no charge, then delivering them to the GSP in perfect condition for prom night. The dresses are ready to create very special memories for high school women. GSP depends on help from volunteers, donations from individuals and assistance from business partners such as Zengeler Cleaners.
