12/21/2009 Glass Slipper Project, Zengeler Cleaners Renew Partnership
Largest Dry Cleaners official drop-off location in Northern Illinois
Northbrook, IL, December 9, 2009: Zengeler Cleaners and the Glass Slipper Project (GSP) announce the renewal of their ongoing partnership that helps thousands of high school women experience the joy of prom. Zengeler Cleaners is the official north suburban collection point for GSP, accepting donations of lovingly-worn prom dresses and accessories at all seven (7) of its stores in Lake and Cook Counties. This is the eighth straight year the family-owned company has partnered with Glass Slipper Project.
Zengeler Cleaners works closely with local schools to collect the dresses. Last year, the drive resulted in 3,650 dresses and hundreds of accessories, with a combined value of $1.5 Million. The effort was officially supported by students from Deerfield, Libertyville, Lake Forest, Adlai E. Stevenson and Carmel Catholic High School. Students from many other schools brought dresses directly to Zengeler Cleaners locations, as did many Zengeler customers.
“Zengeler Cleaners is excited to support the Glass Slipper Project once again this year,” said Tom Zengeler, President of the Midwest’s oldest and largest cleaning company. “Their work provides an invaluable service for teenage women at a very vulnerable time in their lives. We are confident that we’ll have another extremely successful collection drive in the coming school year. In that spirit, we invite other schools who are interested in helping to contact us so we can all work together for this wonderful cause.”
The Glass Slipper Project was founded by women who recognized that many girls cannot afford the luxury of spending big dollars for prom, no matter how special that night might be. The organization distributes the formal dresses and accessories free of charge to these students at Glass Slipper "boutiques," where each student receives individual assistance from a volunteer "personal shopper."
Zengeler Cleaners provides several important services for GSP. In addition to their role as Northern Illinois’ official collection point, Zengeler Cleaners also inspects, repairs as needed and cleans each and every donated prom dress brought to their stores – all donated to the organization. This assures every student wearing a dress from the Glass Slipper Project looks her best on this important evening.
